This April 23 the world celebrates the Day of the Book and Barrio Italia will not be exempt from that. That is why the libraries and galleries that are in the sector, mainly What Leo and Casona La Candelaria, are already preparing for the occasion.
The international celebration of the day of the book dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, specifically to 1926, in tribute to Miguel de Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso, who died in April 1616. Also on April 23 were born and died others Renowned writers such as Maurice Druon, Halldór Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. For this reason, this date so symbolic for universal literature was chosen by the General Conference of UNESCO to pay a worldwide tribute to the book and its authors.
Aware of the importance of the date, the bookstores and galleries of Barrio Italia will carry out different actions to promote reading. Casona La Candelaria, for example, will begin this week (Saturday, 29, specifically) a cycle of Account Tales that will conclude on Saturday, July 15. Attendees will be able to listen and enjoy music and stories that tell us about our territory and its history, touring the landscape in which we live through rhythm and words.
